KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Thousands of people lined up outside of a church food pantry Thursday.

Officials with the Justice Center on the corner of 29th Street and Indiana Avenue said they do food distribution every Thursday, but saw many more people this week than normal.

Typically, organizers serve between 300 and 500 people, but this Thursday they saw 2,000.

The Justice Center said it ran out of food and is asking for donations.

Those lined up received a bag of meat and cleaning solution, organizers told 41 Action News.

They will be there again next Thursday to give out food and supplies.

The increase in people is presumably due to the effects of COVID-19 in the Kansas City community.
