KANSAS CITY, Mo. — There will be a drive-thru visitation for two Lansing Correctional Facility staff members who died last week from COVID-19 complications.

Corrections Supervisors George Bernard Robare and Fella Adebiyi died one day apart on May 11 and 12 after contracting the virus in the line of duty.

The Lansing prison is the site of one of the largest coronavirus outbreaks in the country with 761 inmates and 88 staff members having tested positive, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Robare and Adebiyi will be honored with a Fallen Officer Visitation Service from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday in the west parking lot at Lansing Correctional Facility, 301 E. Kansas St. in Lansing.

Only prison staff and the officers’ families will be permitted at a candlelight vigil after the visitation.

“Masks are required to be worn by all in attendance and both events will honor social distancing guidelines,” the Department of Corrections said in a release.

Four inmates also have died from COVID-19 since the cluster was identified.

The public is invited to the drive-thru visitation.
