KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A resident at the Wichita Work Release Facility tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, the Kansas Department of Corrections said.

The resident is a man over the age of 40, but no other information was released to protect his identity.

KDOC said it is working with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment on next steps, which included moving more than 100 residents from the dormitory in which the man stayed to a newly reconstructed building at Lansing Correctional Facility.

There, the 113 residents will be in medical isolation and monitored.

KDHE is conducting contact tracing to find out who the positive resident may have been in close contact with at the Witchita facility.

The Sedgwick County Health Department is also working to find anyone outside KDOC the resident may have come into contact with.

KDOC has also reported multiple cases of COVID-19 at the Lansing Correctional Facility.
