KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Schools and universities were some of the first places to limit or prohibit in-person gatherings.

At least one Kansas City-area college is among the first to announce plans to bring students back.

William Jewell College in Liberty said Thursday it plans to reopen for in-person classes starting Aug. 26.

The college said its working with Kansas City-based MRIGlobal to train faculty, staff and students on best health care protocols.

Students at the college will have the option to request private residence rooms at no extra cost, and will be offered free access to the campus health center.

“We are committed to our plan to provide students a safe living and learning experience on campus for the fall semester,” President Dr. Elizabeth MacLeod Walls said Thursday in a release. “With support from the Board of Trustees, City of Liberty and Clay County Public Health Center, we intend for William Jewell College to be open for in-person classes and co-curricular activities in August.”

The Clay County Health Department is making free COVID-19 tests available to students.
