KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Bars and nightclubs in Wyandotte County can reopen to the public with some restrictions in place, the Unified Government Public Health Department announced Friday.
The department said only 15 or fewer patrons should be allowed inside at a time, with 6-foot social distancing between people who don’t live together.
The county is also encouraging outdoor seating at these establishments.
Service staff will be required to wear masks and wash their hands frequently, even if they’re using gloves.
The health department is also requiring bars and nightclubs to have hand sanitizer available throughout the space, and staff must clean high-touch areas.
Other than this change, Wyandotte County remains under Phase 2 of Gov. Laura Kelly’s recommended guidelines in the Ad Astra plan.
Wyandotte County officials said the county would remain in Phase 2 until at least June 8.
County officials reminded residents to remain cautious in public.
“While it’s exciting to see more and more of our community’s businesses reopening in a sensible, step-by-step manner, it’s also important to remember that COVID-19 remains a serious threat in Wyandotte County,” said Dr. Erin Corriveau, Unified Government deputy medical officer.
