KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Death tolls from COVID-19 continue to rise at Wyandotte County care facilities.
According to a post from the Unified Government Public Health Department, three more deaths were reported in care facilities as of Tuesday.
One of those deaths occurred at the Riverbend Post Acute Rehabilitation center, bringing that facility's total to 30 deaths. All of those deaths involve residents.
Riverbend has been the subject of multiple lawsuits due to the deaths, and now a relative of one of the deceased residents is fighting for her own life after contracting the virus.
Life Care Center of Kansas City reported two deaths from the virus.
The center had another death in early March, but the health department said the deaths are too far apart to be part of the same cluster, meaning there is likely a second outbreak at the facility.
The health department said Riverbend staff have moved residents who tested negative to a separate floor at the facility. Life Care Center is following public health guidance to protect staff and residents.
