2 arrested in connection to 2020 death of woman found in duffel bag

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two individuals in connection to the 2020 death of a woman who was found in a duffel bag near a highway in northwestern Missouri.

A Missouri Department of Transportation worker located 21-year-old Ariel Starcher in the duffel bag on Feb. 18, 2020, roughly 50 miles north of Kansas City.

The sheriff's office said a man was taken into custody Sunday afternoon in Independence. Another suspect, Taylor Stoughton, was arrested Saturday, according to a Facebook post from the department.

Stoughton is being held in Buchanan County on charges of second-degree murder and abandonment of a corpse.
