KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One male was killed after a shooting Monday morning.

The Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department received a call around 11:14 a.m. to the 3800 block of Bales Avenue. The caller claimed they heard the sound of gunfire outside, saw the victim lying on the ground and called the police.

KCPD says the victim was unresponsive on the ground in front of a house when they arrived.

Emergency medical services transported the victim to the hospital for treatment, but he was declared deceased shortly afterward.

"Detectives are hopeful someone heard or saw something here this morning," KCPD said in a statement released Monday afternoon.

KCPD later identified the victim as Raymond Smith, 62.
