1 dead after double shooting in Historic Northeast in Kansas City on Thursday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police in Kansas City, Missouri, are investigating a shooting that killed one person and injured another Thursday afternoon.

The shooting happened about 4 p.m. after an altercation at the Express Stop convenience store at Independence and Bales avenues, police said.

Police said preliminary investigation indicates the altercation occurred inside the store, which led to shots being fired and both victims being struck.

When officers arrived, one victim, identified as 25-year-old William Jones, was unresponsive. He were declared deceased on the scene.

The second victim suffered life-threatening injuries and is listed in critical condition.

This incident marks the 49th homicide of 2022 in KCMO, which matches the number of homicides as of April 28 one year ago.
