1 dead in KCMO shooting at Independence, Cleveland

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man is dead following a shooting Saturday in Kansas City, Missouri.

Police responded around 5:45 p.m. to the 3500 block of Independence Avenue after receiving shots-fired calls and reports of a victim in front of an apartment.

Upon arrival, officers found the man on the front porch of an apartment and rendered aid, according to police.

EMS declared him dead at the scene.

He has been identified as 29-year-old Sylvester Simms.

There is no additional information at this time. However, anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
