KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One man died after a shooting early Tuesday outside a gas station near 17th Street and Grand Boulevard in Kansas City, Missouri, police said.

Reports of the shooting came in just after 5 a.m. Officers found the victim outside the store suffering from gunshot wounds, police said. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police later identified the victim as 40-year-old Michael Bryan.

A male suspect was seen on surveillance video wearing a red sweatshirt, black leather jacket, blue jeans and a green military-style backpack, police said. He was carrying a white plastic grocery sack and was last seen on foot heading northbound at 16th and Walnut streets.

Police initially released a different description of the suspect based on a witness, but later said that information was inaccurate.

Police shut down Grand from 16th to 18th streets for more than two hours as part of the investigation.
