KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person was seriously injured after a shooting Monday morning, according to Lee's Summit, Missouri, police.

Police said Tuesday they had identified a suspect in the shooting, but he remained at large. Derrick C. Davis, 18, was charged with one count each of first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

Around 7 a.m. Monday, dispatchers sent officers to the scene in the 1700 block of Northeast Ridgeview Drive on reports of a shooting. A police spokesperson said the shooting took place on Ridgeview Drive and the victim ran to Ball Drive, where they made contact with emergency responders.

Police surrounded the home on Ridgeview Drive, thinking the suspect may still be inside. Police later said they had completed their search of the house.

The sole victim received non-life-threatening, although serious, injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

A spokesperson said the suspect and victim know one another and are related. Police described the shooting as a domestic situation.

As a precaution, the Lee’s Summit School District placed nearby Bernard Campbell Middle and Underwood Elementary schools on Colbern Road on restricted movement protocol. Police said "all children got home safely and without incident."

One man living on Ridgeview Drive described hearing five or six gunshots. He said the block is normally quiet and a shooting in unusual.

Bond for Davis was set at $20,000. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Lee’s Summit TIPS Hotline at 816-969-1752.
