KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A teenager was fatally shot Wednesday morning in the 7400 block of College Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri.
Officers responded shortly after 8:30 a.m. to a call of gunshots.
When police arrived, 18-year-old J'rya H. Cockrell was located with a gunshot wound inside a residence. She was declared deceased at the scene.
A person of interest has been taken into custody, and detectives are not actively looking for additional parties, per KCPD.
Circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
