17-year-old receives 17-year sentence for 2019 murder

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A teenager who shot three people, killing one, during an aggravated robbery in January 2019 at a Kansas City, Missouri, park has been sentenced to 17 years in jail.

Angel Perea, 17, previously pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, first-degree robbery and four counts of armed criminal action for a Jan. 26, 2019, triple shooting at Ashland Square Park in the 2200 block of Cypress Avenue.

Perea, who turns 18 next month, was certified to stand trial as an adult in the shooting death of Fernando Perez.

Prior to the shooting, Perea talked about plans to rob Perez and the other two shooting victims with another suspect via Facebook.

Perea, who was 16 at the time of the shootings, met the trio at the park to buy a handgun, which he planned to shoot them with after the sale.
