KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Jackson County prosecutor announced charges Monday against four Kansas City residents, who are accused of stealing from damaged stores Saturday night on the Country Club Plaza.
Protests aimed at ending police brutality in Kansas City and across the country, sparked by last week’s death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody, took place throughout the weekend across the street from the Plaza.
The protests, which took a violent turn Saturday and Sunday after remaining peaceful Friday night, often spilled over to the Plaza, resulting in graffiti and property damage — mostly in the form of busted windows and some burned vehicles, including a 41 Action News SUV.
Donzell Davis, 29, Raven Moses, 29, Richard Black, 27, and Damien Smith, 27, were charged with stealing.
Davis also faces one count of burglary for allegedly trying to steal clothes from Anthropologie and has a $10,000 bond.
Moses allegedly took items from the North Face store and has a $5,000 bond.
Black and Smith allegedly took items from a Foot Locker store. Smith’s bond was $10,000 and Black’s was $15,000, according to a news release from Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker’s office.
The Plaza closed early Saturday and didn’t open for business Sunday or Monday.
