Police say no one was injured in an exchange of gunfire between Kansas City police and two suspects.

Officials say the occupants of a vehicle fired on two plain-clothes police officers at around 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The officers reportedly returned fire and the suspects fled the scene.

“I don’t know what provoked this. The suspect vehicle had nothing to do with what the officers were doing in the area," said Kansas City Police Department Spokesperson Stacey Graves. "They were taken by surprise.”

Two men were quickly taken into custody near 19th and Charlotte Streets. Police aren't looking for any other suspects. Footage from the scene also showed a white Chevrolet Tahoe with bullets in the front windshield.

"I gotta tell you, I'm just really thankful no one was injured in this incident. I'm thankful the officers are safe and I'm also thankful we have two suspects in custody that were brazen enough to shoot at a car, regardless of if they knew they were police officers or not," Graves added.
Editor's Note: Police previously sent out the wrong picture of the suspect involved in this case. The photo has been changed to the correct one.
