KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 28-year-old Kansas City, Missouri, man was charged with murder Friday in the deadly stabbing that occurred a day earlier in the 3700 block of Gardner Avenue in KCMO.

Trever A. Young faces one count of second-degree murder and one count of armed criminal action.

KCPD officers were called shortly before 1:15 p.m. to an address on Gardner Avenue for a reporting stabbing and found a wounded man.

Daniel Atkison, 35, was transported to an area hospital for treatment, but later died from his wounds.

A witness in the area identified Young, who lived at a halfway house in the area, as the suspect and told police in which direction he fled.

The witness also used a stun gun to get an “increasingly agitated” Young to leave.

When Young was taken into custody under a bridge near First Street and Interstate 35, police recovered a bloody knife and bloody clothing, according to the criminal complaint. He also was attempting to burn a Missouri identification card.

According to police, Young is currently on parole for first-degree statutory rape.

The Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office requested a $250,000 cash-only bond for Young.
