KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 4-year-old girl shot Wednesday in Kansas City, Missouri, is expected to be OK.

The shooting occurred shortly after 6 p.m. at East 43rd Street and South Benton Avenue, in the area of Pat Clarke Park.

Police said the child was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is in stable condition.

The child, according to police, was not the intended target.

"One car stopped and fired at another car," said Clarke, the park's namesake. "We saw a baby drop who was just about to go play."

Clarke, his son and others ran over the help the girl and her mother.

"I hope she comes back knowing that someone caught the guy that shot her," he said. "That’s what I hope."
