KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two Kansas City, Missouri, women died Wednesday in a four-vehicle, head-on crash involving a school bus in Clay County, authorities said.

The crash happened at 3:05 p.m. on Missouri 92 and Route A, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

A preliminary investigation found a line of three vehicles were headed west on Missouri 92 when one of the cars stopped to make a left turn onto Route A.

The second vehicle swerved to avoid hitting the vehicle turning, but still hit the back of the first car.

The impact of the crash sent the second vehicle sideways into the school bus; the impact also caused it to hit the third car in line.

Two passengers were killed in the car that crashed into the school bus and two other vehicles.

A crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol identifies the two women as Griselda Rodriguez Apolinar, 32, and Iris Vallares Barahonona, 35.

The driver of the car, Delmy Vasquez Perez, a 26-year-old woman from Kansas City, Kansas, suffered serious injuries.

Seventeen people were on board on the bus.

Two teenage passengers on the bus were injured but were expected to be OK, the MSHP said.

The school bus was heading east on Missouri 92 when the crash occurred.

The bus was taking students from the Gallatin, Missouri, R-5 School District home after a trip to the Future Business Leaders of America conference.
