Eastbound lanes of U.S. Highway 50 in Lee's Summit back open after fatal motorcycle accident Friday

UPDATE, DEC. 23, 1:46 p.m. | The victim of the fatal motorcycle accident Friday on U.S. Highway 50 in Lee's Summit has been identified as Daniel Dimas, 44, of Greenwood, Missouri, according to the Lee's Summit Police Department.

ORIGINAL STORY, DEC. 22, 4:13 p.m. | A fatal motorcycle crash on U.S. Highway 50 in Lee's Summit near 3rd Street closed the eastbound lanes Friday afternoon.

The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. just east of Southwest 3rd Street.

The lanes were back open about 6:30 p.m.

When emergency crews arrived on scene, they found two cars and a motorcycle had been involved in the crash.

Initial investigation efforts found the motorcycle was traveling eastbound when it hit the rear end of a vehicle. The motorcyclist was then thrown from the bike and struck by another passing vehicle, according to a Lee's Summit Police Department (LSPD) press release.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated, and LSPD will interview witnesses.

The victim's name has not been released.
