KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City, Missouri, man now stands accused of shooting the person of interest in the shooting death of his 3-year-old son.

Marcus Haislip Jr., 23, is charged in Jackson County Court with two counts of assault, two counts of armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Haislip is accused of shooting two men Nov. 29 inside a midtown KCMO gas station.

Court documents said Haislip walked into the Xpress Mart Shell gas station just before midnight near West 38th Street and Broadway Boulevard and opened fire with a 9mm handgun.

One of the two men hit by the gunfire was a person of interest in the May 13, 2017, murder of Haislip's 3-year-old son, Marcus Haislip III.

A gunman shot into a car in which Haislip, his toddler son and another relative were riding in on an east Kansas City street.

The child died a short time later at a hospital.

No one has been charged in the child's murder.

A detective who viewed video of the November gas station shooting recognized Haislip from other cases and because Haislip is lefthanded.

The video shows the shooter pull his handgun and shoot with his left hand.

A judge set Haislip's bond at $75,000, cash only.
