KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A K-9 officer turned out to be the best friend for Northland officers trying to capture a wanted fugitive who allegedly assaulted an Excelsior Springs police officer.
After the assault Thursday night, the suspect fled from law enforcement, which led to a chase through multiple Northland cities, according to a Facebook post from the Kearney Police Department.
The social post described the unnamed suspect as "a wanted fugitive."
The fugitive identified Friday as 29-year-old Taylor Brackett was charged Friday in Clay County court with resisting arrest by fleeing, a felony, and two counts of misdemeanor assault.
Excelsior Springs officers began chasing the suspect and were joined by officers from Kearney and Liberty police departments along with Clay County Sheriff's deputies and Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers.
The chase sped into Kearney, where the suspect's vehicle struck spike strips designed to deflate a vehicle's tires, according to Kearney police
But the chase traveled into Liberty before ending when the suspect gave up rather than try to elude a police K-9.
