KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An officer from the Gardner Police Department was involved in a shooting incident on Wednesday afternoon.

At around 3:32 p.m., officers responded to the 17900 block of South Moonlight Road on a welfare check of a potentially suicidal man.

When they arrived, they contacted the man who was armed with a handgun.

The man allegedly pointed the gun towards an officer, who fired his gun at the man.

The man was taken into custody and is being treated for a potential self-inflected gunshot wound.

No officers were injured.

The Johnson County Multi-Jurisdictional Officer Involved Shooting Investigation Team is investigating the incident.
