KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An Independence 16-year-old faces four felony charges in connection with a March 2019 shooting and robbery that left a man paralyzed from the chest down.
The Jackson County Prosecutor's Office announced Thursday that Sean Quinn Jr. has been charged with first-degree assault, first-degree robbery and two counts of armed criminal action.
He is being charged as an adult.
Independence police responded shortly after 2 p.m. on March 25 to the 17000 block of East Susquehanna Drive in regards to a shooting.
Officers found a man with a gunshot wound to the chest in a stairwell at the apartment complex. The victim identified Quinn as the shooter and said he’d stolen $300 that was supposed to be used for purchasing a handgun, a backpack and cell phone.
Quinn faces 10 to 30 years each on the assault and robbery charges and three years each on the armed criminal action charges.
Police knew of Quinn, who fit the description and lived two buildings away from the scene of the shooting. He was taken into custody after a brief standoff.
The stolen items were recovered in the residence and police also found a message exchange in which Quinn boasted about an impending “lick,” which is street slang for a robbery.
The bullet hit the victim’s spine and he was paralyzed from the chest down.
