Posted

A man in the Jackson County Jail now faces a murder charge in connection to a deadly shooting on July 5.

Jerome B. Walker Jr., 41, of Kansas City is charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Alvino Crawford, 29. Walker was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action in July.

According to court documents, the shooting happened just after midnight at President Garden Apartments in the 8200 block of Forest Ave. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Crawford lying near an intersection. He died at the scene.

A witness told police that they and several others were inside an apartment with Crawford and Walker that night, but at some point Walker told them to leave. As they walked out, Walker pulled out a gun and fired several shots, hitting Crawford.

Walker later told police he fired the gun because he wanted to scare someone inside the apartment.

He remains in the Jackson County Jail. Prosecutors have requested a bond of $250,000 cash.
