KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City, Missouri, police said three people were shot, including a five-year-old boy, near Linwood Boulevard and Agnes Avenue Monday morning.
Police were called to the area on a shooting call at about 12:45 a.m.
When they arrived, officers said they were directed to a vehicle in a parking lot with three victims inside.
A man, Jermaine Jackson, 34, and a woman, Ashley Pettiford, 31, were found unresponsive and a third victim, a boy under 10, was inside the vehicle and appeared to have been shot as well.
The two adults died at the scene.
The boy was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police said he was in critical condition, but was stable.
"His injuries are considered serious, but he is expected to survive," a KCPD spokesperson said.
Detectives are working to determine what led up to the shooting and if the victims live in the area or were visiting.
They are also canvassing for witnesses and processing the evidence along with crime scene investigators.
"Detectives indicate that there have been no witnesses come forward as of yet, and they are urging anyone with information to please contact them or the TIPS hotline anonymously," a spokesperson for KCPD said.
