A 27-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in the death of Tamara Dominguez, who was run over by a pickup truck early in the morning of Aug. 15, 2015, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced Monday.

Luis M. Sanchez faces charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action charges.

According to court records, Dominguez was found injured on the ground near Independence Avenue and Spruce on Aug. 15, 2015.

A witness described to police how he heard the screeching tires of an SUV or truck, saw the vehicle bump as if it was driving over the victim, stopping, then backing up over the victim, stopping and driving forward. The vehicle left the parking lot where Dominguez was later found by emergency responders, according to police.

Court records said surveillance video from the area showed an Avalanche truck and witnesses described the man driving the truck. Video also captured Dominguez walking to the vehicle and, after a few minutes, the victim gets into the vehicle and they drive west on Independence Avenue. Tips to the police helped police locate the Chevrolet Avalanche, which was registered to the defendant. A warrant was obtained and the vehicle was transported to a FBI processing facility. The victim's DNA was found on the truck's chassis.

According to court documents, Sanchez worked at a construction company, and when police contacted his supervisor, he stated the defendant had stopped coming to work. Family members told police that Sanchez told them the individual he hit had tried to rob him. Sanchez then disappeared from Kansas City. Police tracked Sanchez to Colorado, where he was later taken into custody.

Prosecutors have requested a bond of $250,000.
