KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City teenager faces multiple felony counts in connection to a deadly January shooting.
Tony Mack, 17, is charged with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, second-degree assault and three counts of armed criminal action.
According to court documents, Kansas City police responded to 16th and Elmwood on reported shots fired the afternoon of Jan. 28. Officers found multiple shell casings in the intersection.
After the shooting, two victims arrived at Truman Medical Center. One victim, later identified as 56-year-old Leon Taylor, had multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead a short time later. The second victim was treated and released.
Court documents say multiple men and a woman went to a house near 16th and Elmwood after running errands. The woman spoke with Mack, her son, at the home. Mack asked about a scab under her nose. Mack’s mother said she fell and showed him scrapes on her knees -- but he didn’t believe her story.
According to the probable cause statement, Mack thought Taylor assaulted his mother. Witnesses told investigators he then pulled out a handgun and shot into the car, according to court documents.
Prosecutors have requested a $150,000 bond.
