KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City, Missouri, man was sentenced on Monday to 18 years in prison for killing another man during a drug deal that turned violent, Platte County prosecutors said.

Darius Miller, 22, pleaded guilty in August to second-degree murder, delivery of a controlled substance and armed criminal action in connection with the Feb. 16 death of Kiran Logan, 20.

Logan was found shot to death outside an apartment building on North London Avenue in the Northland. Miller was on the balcony of his apartment and told officers, “I am the shooter. I shot him,” according to court records.

Messages on Logan’s phone revealed that Miller planned to sell Logan several ounces of marijuana.

Multiple shell casings were found on the apartment balcony and in the grass below, along with a handgun inside the apartment and an assault rifle and $720 in cash in Miller’s bedroom.

Platte County Judge James Van Amburg sentenced Miller to 18 years in prison for the murder charge, 10 years for delivery of a controlled substance, and 10 years for armed criminal action. He ordered those sentences to run concurrently.
