KCMO man charged in Easter shooting near Nicholson and Prospect

UPDATE 4/22/2017 10:30 P.M.: A Kansas City, Missouri man faces charges in the April 16 fatal shooting of Robert A. Witmer. 

John L. Williamson, 30, is charged with second-degree murder, the misdemeanor charge of violation of an order of protection for adult and armed criminal action.

Prosecutors say a witness told police that Williamson shot Witmer. Witnesses say that Williamson and Witmer were in an argument when Witmer picked up a rock and Williamson threatened to shoot him.  Investigators also found a handgun in the shed where Williamson lives.

He is being held on a $200,000 bond.

ORIGINAL STORY: 

One man is dead after a shooting and standoff over the weekend. 

Officials said they were called to the scene at about 4:30 p.m Sunday and discovered a victim with a gunshot wound to the stomach. The victim was taken to a local hospital and later died from his injuries. 

The suspect refused to exit a residence in the 2500 block of Nicholson, and negotiators were called to the scene. 

At 7:15 p.m. the shooting suspect left the residence and was taken into custody without incident. 

Police said the victim and the suspect are brothers.
