KANSAS CITY, Mo. — KCPD is investigating after a resident found a body in an alleyway Monday morning.
The man was found in the 1600 block of Lister Avenue in east Kansas City, Missouri, where residents reported hearing gunshots around 4 a.m. - 5 a.m.
On Tuesday, KCPD identified the victim as Derrick Harris, 36, of Harrisonville, Missouri.
Police also said the cause of death isn't known yet, and they were waiting on the medical examiner to arrive.
KCPD is approaching the case as a homicide. Capt. Lionel Colon said it is the city's 61st homicide of 2018.
Colon said police need help to solve this case and many more.
"It's imperative. I mean some of these investigations have very little to go on, on the front end, and the longer it takes, the harder it is — and it's a partnership, and we can't do it without the community's help," Colon said.
Police encouraged anyone with information regarding this case, or any other case, to call 816-474-TIPS.
