KCPD investigating dead body found inside burned vehicle

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department is investigating after a dead body was found near East 10th Street and Oakley Avenue.

KCPD confirmed Friday afternoon, Dec. 4, that a burned body was located in a burned pickup truck at the scene.

The victim was identified Dec. 14 as 25-year-old Devonta Dunson.

The Kansas City Fire Department confirmed that firefighters responded to extinguish a vehicle fire in the area at 6:15 a.m. on Friday morning.

The body was discovered at 2:15p.m. when KCPD officers were called back to the scene to investigate a report of a body inside the burned vehicle.

Five shell casings were visible on the street next to the truck at the scene, according to a 41 Action News crew in the field.

No cause of death or identifying information has been released about the person who died.

The incident remains under investigation.

"Today around 6:15 a.m., KCFD responded to the area of 10th Street and Winner Road on a vehicle fire," a KCFD spokesperson confirmed. "At 2:15 p.m., Officers were called to 10th Street and Winner Road on a report of a dead body inside a vehicle. Officers responded to the scene and confirmed there was a body inside the burned vehicle. At this time, the incident is being investigated as a suspicious death."
