ORIGINAL STORY, Aug. 31 | Kansas City, Missouri, police are investigating a fatal shooting near 54th Street and Swope Parkway.
According to KCPD, the shooting happened around 3:45 a.m.
Officers were directed to a home in the area where a woman in her 30s was shot and was unresponsive.
She was declared deceased at the scene of the shooting.
Detectives are working to gather evidence and talk to anyone who may have seen something.
“Hopefully the crime scene and some of the evidence there will give the detectives a good idea of who is responsible,” explained Sgt. Jake Becchina, a spokesperson for the department.
Becchina added that federal agents were working alongside KCPD detectives during the investigation as part of Operation LeGend.
"They’re embedded with the violent crimes investigative squads. Early on in the investigation, they’re right alongside detectives. They are helping knock on doors and canvas for witnesses and any identities of any potential suspects or things like that they’ll be working right alongside detectives to help them as much as they can,” Becchina explained while reinforcing KCPD is the lead investigatory agency.
