KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department is investigating a homicide in the 7300 block of East U.S. 40 Highway.

Around 11:30 a.m. Monday, officers responded to a shooting call in the area.

Police arrived and located an unresponsive man in a parking lot of an auto business.

Emergency medical services declared the victim, identified as 49-year-old Marcos A. Munoz-Benitez, deceased at the scene.

Police report investigation thus far indicates the caller, the owner of the business, heard gunfire. The caller then looked outside and saw the victim in the parking lot, leading detectives to believe the shooting took place in the lot.

No suspect information is available at this time, but police said Tuesday that detectives have "made significant headway identifying a person of interest."
