UPDATE, June 9 | The victim was identified as 21-year-old Trinton Phillips. Police believe he was killed in an attempted robbery. Witnesses saw a dark-colored sedan leave the scene.
ORIGINAL STORY, June 8 | One person was shot and killed Monday afternoon in the parking lot of a grocery store in Kansas City, Missouri.
KCPD officers were dispatched to a Price Chopper in the 9700 block of North Ash Avenue a few minutes before 5:30 p.m. on a reported shooting.
A police spokesman confirmed one shooting victim was found dead inside a car.
Police said a man drove off from the scene in an unknown vehicle. Officers on scene were speaking with people who were in the parking lot around the time of the shooting.
This is the 79th homicide of 2020 in KCMO, which is on track to have one of the deadliest years in the city’s history.
