KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The death of a missing Kansas City, Missouri, mother whose body was discovered last weekend is being investigated as a homicide.

KCPD issued a missing person alert Dec. 18 for Renita Thompson, who had not been seen since Dec. 14, according to the initial press release.

Thompson’s body was found by family members during the morning of Dec. 21 near East Gregory Boulevard and Ewing Avenue in south Kansas City.

KCPD Sgt. Jake Becchina confirmed Friday that Thompson’s death is being investigated as a homicide.

“The cause of death and all other circumstances are still under investigation,” Becchina said in an email to 41 Action News.

Thompson, 28, had two children.

“She was nice,” Thompson’s cousin, Alexis Paskel, told 41 Action News on Sunday. “She was blunt. She was like a sister to me. She loved her kids. She thought the world of them.”

Anyone with information about Thompson’s case is asked to call the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers Tips Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
