UPDATE: A man accused of assaulting a law enforcement officer is now in police custody.

Officials say Christopher Allen Branham was charged with aggravated battery against a police officer.

No word yet on what led up to the arrest.

The Johnson County Multi-Jurisdictional Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation Team is attempting to locate Christopher Allen Branham, the driver of the 1986 Monte Carlo bearing Kansas license plate 974GXJ. Branham has a warrant for the aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer.

Authorities have launched a manhunt following an officer-involved shooting outside a QuikTrip in Shawnee, Kansas.

According to officials, a Shawnee officer ran the plates of a vehicle that was sitting in the parking lot of the QuikTrip at 75th and Switzer early Thursday morning.

The driver had a warrant for their arrest, so the Shawnee officer flagged down the help of a Lenexa officer who was at the QuikTrip at the time.

The two officers approached the car, a struggle ensued and the driver backed up the vehicle in effort to make an escape.

The Lenexa officer fell down and discharged one gunshot from a firearm.

The driver sped away traveling north on I-35, according to several witnesses.

The Lenexa officer suffered only minor scrapes. As a matter of standard procedure, the Lenexa officer has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the investigation by the Johnson County Multi-Jurisdictional Officer Involved Shooting Investigation Team.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
