EARLIER | LENEXA, Kan. — Police are searching for a man who assaulted and robbed a good Samaritan.

Officers responded to a fight near the intersection of West 87th Street and Quivira Road on Sunday just before 1:30 p.m.

The victim, Hanna, told 41 Action News she put herself in the middle of danger after noticing what one man was doing to another woman in a car.

"He was just throwing things at her she wasn't even saying anything so I know that she-this wasn't the first time it was happening you know she was just kind of taking it and it just made me sad I don't know," Hanna said.

So when the light turned green Hanna swerved her car in front of the man's car to stop it, then got out.

"I went over to the door was just screaming 'what are you doing?' and 'you need to get out of the car!' to both of them and so he gets out of the car and he just starts punching me in the face," Hanna said.

The force threw Hanna on the ground and knocked her cellphone out of her hand.

The suspect picked it up and got back in his car.

"So I ran right in front of his car so he couldn't go anywhere and maybe it would prolong him a little bit but he still gassed it so I just jumped out of the way and then he just went," Hanna said.

Lenexa Police said the suspect's vehicle is a late 1990s or early 2000s black Ford Mustang convertible with a Georgia license plate.

A man, who didn't want to be named, recognized the vehicle on the Nextdoor app.

He believes he encountered the driver a few days ago in the parking lot of the Walmart at 7701 Frontage Road in Overland Park.

"I was going to ask you know, 'where you from? what brings you to Kansas City?' but when I got his attention and was talking to him he just basically looked at me and gave me a snarl and drove off," he said.

Hanna said Tuesday if the same situation happened again, she wouldn't think twice.

"I would still do the same thing. I don't know what accomplished, but I feel like my gut told me that maybe her seeing him wail on me, maybe made her realize something-I don't know-I think I was meant to intervene, she said.

Anyone who may have witnessed this fight, or who may information on the identity of the suspect, is asked to call the Lenexa Police Department at 913-825-8169 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
