KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Liberty teenager is accused of fatally shooting a homeless man and injuring his wife over the cost of marijuana, Jackson County prosecutors said.

Joshua Reese, 17, faces charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of 51-year-old Charles Cecil on Friday.

According to court records, a witness told police that Reese shot Cecil after an argument over the cost of marijuana that Cecil was selling. The witness said the dispute stemmed from trying to lower the cost from $15 to $10.

Cecil and his wife had recently been evicted and were staying in a staircase at an abandoned school building in the 3500 block of Anderson Avenue in northeast Kansas City, according to records.

Cecil's 53-year-old wife was also shot and transported to an area hospital. Kansas City police said Friday that she was in stable condition.

Numerous spent shell casings were found at the scene.

Prosecutors requested a $750,000 bond for Reese.
