KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An Independence man has been charged in a deadly shooting at a gas station where 13 shots were fired.
Marc Barron, 19, faces second-degree murder and armed criminal action charges.
According to court documents, Independence police officers responded to FavTrip at 10507 E. 23rd Street on June 23 for a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot, later identified as Cahoone Littlejohn, 24. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers learned the suspect ran into the FavTrip; they found Barron and arrested him.
Court documents say initial observations showed Littlejohn had been shot at least three times.
A witness told police Littlejohn and Barron argued after Littlejohn almost hit him with his car backing up in the parking lot. The witness said when Barron left FavTrip, he and Littlejohn argued. The argument escalated and punches were thrown.
The witness said Barron then pulled out a handgun, causing Littlejohn to take a step backward and trip, according to court documents. After that, the witness said they heard several shots, and after they confronted Barron he ran into the FavTrip.
Independence police obtained surveillance video that showed the shooting.
Court documents say Barron admitted to police he shot Littlejohn but said it was in self-defense. Barron said when he walked out of FavTrip, Littlejohn talked to him saying to never touch his car again. Barron told investigators Littlejohn punched him in the face, knocking out a tooth.
Court documents say Barron told police he pulled out his gun and began firing shots because he feared for his safety. He said he continued to shoot Littlejohn because he was afraid he was going to get a gun. Court documents say 13 shots were fired at the scene.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $500,000.
