KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One man is dead after a shooting Sunday afternoon at The Denton, an upscale apartment community in the Northland.

Officers with the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department responded to the 5900 block of N.W. 63rd Terrace around 1:15 p.m. for a shooting.

The victim — identified Sunday evening as Austin C. Williams, a 30-year-old black male — was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. He later died from a gunshot wound, according to the KCPD.

Police initially told 41 Action News that one suspect, who remained at the scene, was in custody. But KCPD subsequently said no arrests have been made and there is no suspect information at this time.

The Denton bills itself as a luxury apartment community. It’s located near the southwest corner of the intersection of Interstate 29 and Tom Watson Parkway.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
