KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The man who Lenexa police found living in a storage unit with his children and dead wife's body is charged in a homicide out of Palm Springs, California.

In late October, police found Justin Rey and his children at a U-Haul storage unit. They also found his wife's dismembered remains in two separate coolers. He's charged with abandoning a corpse and child endangerment.

Rey is also charged with murdering Sean T. Ferel.

Palm Springs, California police believe that Rey murdered a man who disappeared in May and he then used that man's financial information, money, credit cards and vehicle.

Sean Ty Ferel's family told PSPD he hasn't been seen since May 7, 2016. They later learned he left on vacation with Rey. Police also said the friends claim there was a marked change in the way Ferel responded to texts and they believe he wasn't the one sending them.

Palm Springs, California police say Sean Ty Ferel hasn't been seen since May.

In August 2016, investigators discovered Rey was in an accident in Ferel's vehicle. When police interviewed Rey, they found Ferel's phone and other property in his possession. They also discovered there was blood in the vehicle's trunk. A DNA report later revealed the blood belonged to Ferel.

Ferel's body has not yet been found.

PSPD also said investigators found more of Ferel's belongings in a storage united rented to Rey in Kingman, Arizona. Officials also said they have surveillance video of Rey using Ferel's credit card at multiple different locations.

The release also said that Palm Springs police are working with Kansas officials on possibly extraditing Rey to California.
