KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 17-year-old was killed and a man was injured in a shooting Tuesday night in Kansas City, Kansas, police said.

Shortly before 10 p.m., officers responded to the shooting in the 1900 block of North 15th Street. They found the two victims, who had been shot while riding in the backseat of a car.

The man told police unknown suspects shot at the car while it was traveling eastbound on Parallel Parkway between 38th and 18th streets.

The teen suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital, where he died overnight. He was identified as 17-year-old Jo'shawn Garrett of Kansas City, Kansas.

The man suffered serious injuries but was reported to be in stable condition.

Two other people, a man and a woman, were also in the car, but they were not injured.

Police said the shooting remains under investigation.

"We have three people we can talk to and hopefully find out if they knew who these people were," KCK police spokesman Officer Tom Tomasic said. "More than likely this wasn't some random act. I'm sure someone knows who this was and hopefully we can catch the shooter."
