OLATHE, Kan. — A man pleaded guilty to kidnapping and raping a Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy.
William Luth pleaded guilty in Johnson County court to aggravated kidnapping, two counts of rape, and aggravated criminal sodomy.
Luth and Brady Newman-Caddell, who is also charged in the incident, allegedly followed a woman to her workplace - the Johnson County Jail - where they kidnapped her. Police said the men eventually let the sheriff’s deputy go across the state line near I-470 and Woods Chapel Road. She walked to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and asked for help.
Luth’s sentencing is scheduled for February 15, 2018. Johnson County prosecutors are asking the judge for an increase in jail time from normal because Luth is a "predatory sex offender" and they believe he poses a risk to public safety. Officials also believe Luth and Newman-Caddell may have hurt others.
