Man charged in deadly shooting at south KC apartment complex

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man faces charges in a deadly shooting at a south Kansas City apartment complex. 

Malik Chapple, 21, is charged with second-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, first-degree robbery, and endangering the welfare of a child. 

Officers were sent to the 9700 block of Lydia on a shooting at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18.

When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot. KCFD personnel took him to the hospital and he later died. 

The victim was identified as Travis D. Mills, 25, of Kansas City, Missouri. 

According to court records, Chapple shot Mills during a drug deal. Documents also say Chapple came to the deal with a child in the car. 

Prosecutors have requested a bond of $100,000 cash.
