KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person died in a traffic crash Tuesday night on the ramp from west 75th Street to northbound Interstate 35 in Johnson County.

A 1969 Chevrolet and a 1997 Chevrolet SUV were attempting to merge northbound onto the interstate at the time of the crash, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

When the '97 slowed for traffic, the '69 was unable to slow. The collision then led the '69 to run off the road to the right and strike the barrier wall.

KHP reported the occupant of the '69, 79-year-old Sharon Bybee, died as a result of the crash. The driver, 81-year-old Fred Bybee, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The '97 Chevrolet fled the scene, per KHP.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
