KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person was shot twice Tuesday night in the parking lot of the Walmart in Raymore, Missouri.
The suspect drove from the scene in he 2000 block of West Foxwood Drive, according to the Raymore Police Department.
The victim and another man had been in the store before the shooting, police said.
The two were at the victim's car when a vehicle stopped nearby. The victim and suspect, who may know one another, got into an argument, police said.
"Words exchanged," Raymore Chief of Police Jan Zimmerman said. "We don’t know what they are. We don’t know if it was an argument or what happened. As (the victim) was attempting to go back to his vehicle, the suspect opened fire on him striking him twice."
Police said the victim's wound are serious but not life-threatening. He was shot in the shoulder and leg.
One man told 41 Action News he heard two shots, turned around, and saw the victim lying on the floor near his car. The witness said he ran over to the victim, took off his shirt, and used his shirt to put pressure on the victim's leg.
No other person was targeted by the shooter, police said.
"I think it’s ridiculous, especially at a neighborhood place like Walmart trying to get your everyday life stuff," Takiya Phillips, who was shopping for her childrens' school supplies, said. "It’s sad you're actually use to it."
At approximately 6:20pm Raymore Police responded to a shooting in the parking lot of Walmart. One person was injured and the suspect fled the scene. Police are currently investigating and we ask residents to avoid the area. We will update as more information becomes available.
