KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person was killed after being hit while on a motorized scooter in Kansas City, Missouri, on Thursday, police said.

Just before noon, officers responded to Troost Avenue and East 51st Street on reports of a pedestrian who'd been hit.

A preliminary investigation found a red Ford Focus was heading north on Troost at a high rate of speed.

The pedestrian on the scooter was crossing an unmarked crosswalk when it was hit by the Ford.

The driver of the Ford stopped and remained on the scene.

The scooter driver was transported to an area hospital and later died.
