BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. — A 44-year-old man has been charged in a shooting that killed Joshua McDaniel at a Blue Springs motel.
Marvin Belk is charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.
Blue Springs police responded Wednesday night to the Welcome Inn. According to court documents, Belk flagged officers down and said he was the person they were looking for.
Officers recovered a handgun from his waistband.
Court documents say Belk told police he had been told his son had been threatened in the parking lot, and he went to McDaniel’s room and confronted him.
Belk told police McDaniel said “so you brought a gun,” and Belk said he pulled out the gun and shot McDaniel.
Court documents say Belk told police after he shot McDaniel he realized he made a mistake then surrendered to police.
