KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Three trailers were reported stolen from three Shawnee businesses in a span of a few days.
The first went missing Friday night and two more were taken around 1:50 a.m. on Monday.
Now, the owners are hoping surveillance video of the thefts will help police catch whoever is responsible.
In surveillance video from Monday morning, a person can be seen hooking up a trailer to a black pickup truck and driving away.
Minutes later, someone rolls another trailer away from Greg Ochoa Jr.'s business.
Ochoa said, while it might seem minor, one of those trailers was the first piece of equipment he bought when he started his fire suppression business, Goal Fire Protection, four years ago, giving it added sentimental value.
"I started off as a welder, a dirty but respectable trade, and worked my way up to this industry and build my company from the ground up," Ochoa said. "I wiped out our savings and everything, so you know they kind of messed with the wrong person."
He also said if the thief or thieves are brazen enough to steal from him and others in the business park, he wants to make sure they're caught before they strike again.
"Hopefully, if I can prevent these people from stealing other people‘s property or something that might involve potential injury or more costly items, that’s what I hope we can do," Ochoa said.
Ochoa shared his video with police, but he also canvassed neighboring businesses for additional surveillance footage, which is how he learned the black truck stopped at a nearby convenience store.
That video also will be turned over to police in hopes of getting a license plate number.
Anyone who recognizes the truck or the person in the video is asked to contact Shawnee police at 913-631-2155.
